There are different ways of preparing snails ranging from the land snail to the water snail. I was one of those that don’t like eating snails but the very day I ate it with vegetables prepared by my sister Dorcas, I agreed that I didn’t know what I was rejecting.
When I was in Ogun State in 2016 I was given a fried snail to eat but I didn’t eat further after the first bite of it. It was something strange to me and it was tasteless perhaps because I am not used to it.
In 2020 at Warri Delta State, Dorcas prepared land snails with vegetables specifically with ogu and water leaves. Before she prepared it, I had already made up my mind not to partake in the meal but as she began processing and preparing the meal I began to have second thoughts in fact, she hadn’t started with the snail yet but anything that can go with veggies O my goodness! Count me in.
As she continued to do the fries and wash the veggies and dress the snails and add the ingredients and subtract the odds and multiply the obstacles and divide the dishes, you needed no prophet to prophesy that I am going to give in at the end.
When the meal was ready, Dorcas served me my own share and as soon as I perceived the aroma of the sumptuous meal, my soul leaped for joy and my taste skyrocketed the more as my body couldn’t resist the washing handball. Immediately I had my first shot ummmm! I gently said to my soul, O you man never you discourage yourself of a particular recipe unless you have eaten it from different hands with different methods of preparation.
After that meal, I looked for a snail farm in other to eat a snail the next day because the very meal was consumed just during supper. Since then snail with veggies has become one of my favorite recipes.
Snail with veggies along with smocked or dry fish and with spices plus other essential ingredients with little or no water at all, Oh! It’s a meal worth enjoying. You’ll make my week only if you make available this recipe on my table.
