1. Jollof Rice: Originating from West Africa, particularly Nigeria and Ghana, Jollof rice is a staple dish that is loved by many.

It is a one-pot dish made with rice, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and a variety of spices such as thyme, curry powder, locust bean (in some cases), and chili pepper. With this ingredient, the aroma of a dish blows the mind. Jollof rice is often served with grilled or fried chicken, beef, or fish, making it a hearty and flavorful meal.

2. Tagine: This traditional North African dish that journeyed from North Africa to France is named after the clay pot in which it is cooked.

Tagine, the pot, is traditionally made of terracotta and has a signature conical lid. Tagine typically consists of slow-cooked meat, such as lamb or chicken, along with a combination of vegetables, dried fruits, and aromatic spices like cumin, turmeric, and full of aromas that invite you on a culinary journey.

The result is a tender and fragrant stew that is often served with couscous or bread.

3. Bobotie: Pronounced Ba-boor-tea, Originating from South Africa, bobotie is a traditional savory dish made with minced meat, usually beef or lamb, mixed with spices, onions, and breadcrumbs. The mixture is then baked with a topping of egg and milk custard until golden and set. Bobotie is often served with yellow rice and chutney, creating a perfect balance of flavors.

4. Ndolé: Hailing from Cameroon, ndolé is a delicious and nutritious dish made with bitter leaf greens, which are cooked with a combination of peanuts, crayfish, meat (often beef or fish), flavored with garlic, curry, ginger,  crayfish and spicy seasonings. The result is a rich and flavorful stew that is commonly served with plantains or boiled yams.

5. Injera: Thicker than a crepe but thinner than a pancake, Injera is a staple food in Ethiopia and Eritrea. It is a sourdough flatbread made from fermented teff flour, which is a gluten-free grain. Injera is traditionally used as a base for various stews and dishes. The bread itself has a slightly tangy flavor and a spongy texture, making it a unique and versatile addition to any meal.

6. Bunny Chow: A popular street food in South Africa, bunny chow is a unique dish that consists of a hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with curry. The spicy curry can be made with chicken, beef, or stew flavored with cayenne chili, tomato puree, flour, garlic, sunflower oil, onion, carrots, and potatoes.
