Asun (Spicy Roasted Goat) is what many Nigerians would describe as a delectable spicy roasted goat chopped into bite-sized pieces, with big bold aromatic flavors from onions, habanero, garlic, and bell peppers. Smokey, sizzling, spicy! Definitely not for the faint-hearted. Native to the Yoruba-speaking Ondo people in Western Nigeria.

INGREDIENTS:
1kg grilled goat meat
Scotch bonnet (Atarodo) to taste. But note that asun is usually spicy
2 large onions
seasoning cube
½ cooking spoon vegetable oil
Salt to taste.

To prepare ASUN first Blend pepper and one onion coarsely, and set aside.

Secondly, slice the other onion and set aside.

Now, cut the grilled goat meat into bite sizes.

Also, place a wok or frying pan on a stove top and set to medium heat, add vegetable oil.

When it’s hot, add the peppers and onions and saute. Add the seasoning and salt to taste. Let that cook for about 15 minutes.

Then add the goat meat, and stir to combine. Allow this to fry for another 10 minutes.

Now add the slices of onion to the add to the meat and combine.

Add some chopped green peppers if using.

Fry till the onions caramelize a bit and your asun is ready.

That’s all you need to make this sumptuous delicacy.
