Kyegh Sha Shua: How to prepare the TIV traditional recipe with chicken

1 Min Read

Kegh Sha Shua is a traditional soup of the Tiv people of Benue State, Nigeria. The soup is prepared with fried or dry benea seed usually ground in a powdered form but most times because of its oil, you hardly get it in powdered form but a sticky paste.

The paste is either fried or mixed with the ingredients (depending on the method of preparation) to give a sumptuous taste.

Kyegh is the name for chicken. In this context, assorted chicken is ready to behold and wine together in the pool of the sweet Mama’s pot.

During the cooking process, the assorted chicken (kyegh) dangles and wallows itself in the pool of the ishua (benea seed) while the drum of the fire heat harder, the savouring aroma kissed by the nune (African Maggi) begins to boom and bloom him, I’m already salivating as I write smiles.

After the soup has passed all the necessary processes and terms and conditions applied, it will be served best with luam yo (Pounded yam) but others like fufu can also be used.
